Week 3: April 20-24

Hello All! Welcome to Week 3!

MONDAY:

  1. NEWS: Watch Team Meeting: April 20 video on YouTube for an overview of the week’s work

  2. Career Ed:

  • Choose a genius Hour Activity to focus on at home

  • Watch the Youtube Video

  • Choose a household goal, write it at the top of a staircase and break it down into smaller steps like the video shows you how.

  • EVIDENCE: Choose a goal or a few options that you might want to work towards and email them to me!

3.  Read-Aloud:

  • Catch-up! I have heard from only a few of you and need you to catch up on these chapters or you won’t be able to keep up with the novel study. We are only 8 chapters in so now is the time to catch up!

  • It is also possible we go back to school before the book is done and you need to know what is going on!

  • After you’re caught up, listen each day so you don’t get behind again

  • Choose 2 out of the 3 questions for each chapter

  • Questions are posted on “worksheets” tab of website https://carsondiv12.wixsite.com/classwithmrsc/announcements

  • EVIDENCE: Answer questions on a paper, or type out your answers and email to me!

4.   Math: Probability Catch-up

  • Extra help for last week online Monday at 1:00!

  • Please watch Youtube video before

  • ZOOM link in Monday email!

  • EVIDENCE: Write your answers on paper, or print the sheets if you can and send pictures of your completed

Writing:

  • Letter writing assignment- please finish and mail!

  • In your bag of supplies from school I printed off some pages to explain this project, I also included an envelope with a stamp on it

  • Please watch the Youtube video/follow the instructions on the page and put in the nearest curbside mailbox near your home! (ask you family where!)

  • EVIDENCE: Send me a picture of you putting your letter in the mailbox! 

TUESDAY:

Socials:

  • Make sure that you have chosen a culture from the list last week and send proof to your teacher! (Ancient China, Ancient Japan, Mongolia, Mesopotamia, Inca, Maori) There are introductions to each place to help you choose on last week’s homework!

  • Once you have chosen a culture… start researching!

This week’s research theme is Physical Geography. This means the natural landscapes and features of the area. Please research the following questions about your chosen country or culture. You might need to look up key words that are underlined.

 

  1. What continent is it on? What hemisphere is it in?

  2. What are the nearby or neighboring countries?

  3. What are the major bodies of water of your area (lakes, rivers, oceans, seas, waterfalls)

  4. What natural landforms are part of your area? (mountains, deserts, plains, forests/rainforests/volcanoes)

  5.  What is the climate of your area? (the weather conditions, ex: hot, dry, cold, wet, rainy, humid, snowy etc.)

  6. What were some of the natural resources (supplies found in nature) that were used for housing/shelter in your culture of study?

  • To build on letter writing I have posted an intro to proper email writing (I promise that we are moving into a cool unit- I just need you to have the basics)

  • Watch probability review of last week and new concept

THURSDAY:

PICK UP

  • To take some of the pressure off of online learning I prepared paper work packages to be picked up for all students

  • At Harwin Gym Doors between 11:00-2:00, please follow 6 ft apart social distance rules J

  • PLEASE send your student or try your best to make this work, all Harwin divisions will have stuff there at the same time 

  • IF that time does not work for you please let me know and we will get work to you 

  • WHILE THERE: SPIRIT DEN KITS:

    • The Spirit Den put together art/sport/ activity kits to go home for more off-screen activities

    • They are packed with activities and supplies to keep you busy!

    • Have a look and choose one to take home with you!!

  • Choose a person to fake write an email to, either:

    • A Teacher

    • A friend

    • A family member

    • A complaint letter

  • Review the earlier video if you are confused!

7. Physical Activity:

  • Each day there is one secret word that you will have to “spell” and do the exercises that go with each letter

  • I have filmed myself doing each of the exercises so you know what they look like, on YouTube Channel

  • Daily Challenges:

    • Wednesday: Your favorite subject in school

    • Thursday: Your favorite chocolate bar

    • Friday: Your Street Name

 

Fill out DPA log that was sent home with your school supplies with what word you spelled and how long it took you!

Hello All! Welcome to Week 1! Each week you will find

updates on here!

Must Do Jobs:

  1. NEWS: Watch the Team Meeting Video here for updates on classes! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQxl68vGw5eT0zyqIjfN4hQ/

  2. LA: Each day, listen to one chapter of our class read aloud! Up on my Youtube channel, and answer the questions that will be sent out every Wednesday!

  3. MATH: intro to probability lesson to be posted Tuesday, and follow up activity will be given!

    • Please complete, send a picture of it to my email by Friday 

  4. READING: Go onto EPIC books! It is a website that provides free online books for students. I have added all students to this, log in instructions have been sent to all parent emails as of this morning! Choose something you would like to read on your own! Try to find a book that interests you, is at your level, that you haven’t read before!

    • Once you have made a choice, read 30 minutes per day!​

  5. WRITING: Start writing mini project: a letter to yourself- a lesson on this will be posted on Thursday!

  6. ART: At home Art Challenge! I will have a video detailing this to be posted Tuesday!

 

Could Do Jobs:

  • Daily Physical activity! At least 3 times a week you should be finding a way to keep yourself active for about 30 minutes.

    • Starting next week I will be asking you to track your activity in a log that you can send me weekly pictures of

    • I have posted a workout on the DPA part of this site- give it a try! Or go for a walk, try a youtube video of your own, take your own basketball and go shoot some hoops (I did this at Harwin last weekend and the court is dry now!).

  • Go onto Prodigy to practice! I have uploaded some multiplication and division review so we don’t lose all of the progress we have made

  • Math games: play multiplication war with a family member

  • I will be sending each family a list of student log on information for all of our sites for online education!

  • IF you would like an individual ZOOM check-in/video chat please email me with a time Monday-Friday 8:00-5:00 that works for you and I will send you a meeting invitation!
